Weekend Roundup - Silicon Edition
Every few months, I give in to my inner dork and spend a weekend at a local science fiction convention. This time, I’m at Silicon. It’s a fun way to spend a weekend. I get to pass the time with friends while watching people dressed as klingon walk through the hall ways next to normal Silicon Valley business travelers. It’s not the most active of weekends but I enjoy it nonetheless. Sometimes, I just need a break from my routine and this is as good as any. In the meantime, here are some articles from this week which I thought were interesting:
From the Diet Blog we have this article about unhealthy salads. This is one of the most harmful trends I see today. People falling for this myth that anything with the word “salad” in the title is automatically healthy. Unfortunately, most American salads are nothing more than a few leafy greens like lettuce, covered with unhealthy items like creamy sauces or meat. We’ve talked about this before at 60 in 3. If you want a healthy salad that tastes great, here’s some recommendations, but stay away from restaurant salads.

From Fit Sugar we have this article about the afternoon snack. I actually recommend that most people get something to eat between lunch and dinner. It keeps your energy levels high and your dinners reasonable. just don’t go overboard.

And speaking of healthy snacks, here’s a recipe from the Diet Pulpit for Egg Combo Wraps. I do something similar for breakfast, but I can see how this would make a great snack.

And the exact opposite of the healthy snack, here’s an article from Chew On That that talks about one of the most unhealthy restaurants around. Oddly enough, I really don’t mind restaurants like this. Unlike the salad options mentioned in the first article, this place doesn’t try to disguise what it does. They know they’re unhealthy and they’re fine with it. There’s nothing wrong with the occasional moment of unhealthy food, just don’t make a habit of it. And at least with this place you know exactly what you’re getting.

And before I forget, thank you to Middle Aged Shed, The Health and Life Mixing Bowl, Success Systems, Gotta Keep It Off and So Good for featuring 60 in 3 articles in their various round ups and carnivals.
