Weekend Roundup - Chicago Edition
Just landed in Chicago for a week long business trip, and I’m going to try and implement all the great tips you all provided in this post about staying healthy while traveling. The hotel also has a great workout center which should make exercise easy. I’m actually thinking of trying out their pool rather than jogging tomorrow. In the meantime, here are some articles I thought you’d find interesting:
From Zen Habits we have this post about simple things people can do to stay healthy. It doesn’t go into the level of detail I find really useful, but it’s a nice list nonetheless. I especially like number 8. There’s nothing more effective than educating yourself.

From the Diet Blog, we have this article about how to keep a food journal. We talked about food journals earlier this week on 60 in 3 in this post. I think they are a vital part of any diet. In order to fix your eating habits you first need to know what those habits are, and a food journal does just that. It tells you what you’re eating, when and why.

From Mark’s Daily Apple we have this post about how to cheat on your diet. It sounds silly but I actually found it very useful. I love candy and I don’t intend on giving it up completely in the name of the perfect diet. So it’s good to have some idea about which candy is less harmful. Of course, this isn’t an excuse to go gorge yourself at the chocolate store, but if you can’t avoid doing all damage, at least minimize the amount of damage you do.

And finally, we have one more article from the Diet Blog which I thought was a perfect companion piece to the article from Mark’s Daily Apple. This one talks about those chocolate protein bars you see at the supermarket. The packaging will often tell you that these bars are good for your health. Well, don’t be fooled. These are just candy bars in disguise. If you’re going to eat candy, just acknowledge it, plan for it and move on. Don’t try to pretend it’s healthy, that’s just a straight route to a bad eating habit.
