Weekend Roundup: Moving edition

I’m writing this post from Border’s in Sunnyvale, CA. My fiance and I just finished moving to a new home and I’m mostly done with the unpacking. The new place is great. Year round heated pool for swimming, cute little gym at the apt complex plus the new place is walking distance to lots of restaurants, stores and the local train station. This means a lot more walking and a lot less driving, which should save me money plus and burn more calories.

Only one carnival for this week but it’s from one of my favorite blogs. Veggie Chick has decided to feature my series about food journals in her vegetarian carnival. And if you carnivores thing this carnival has nothing for you, think again. It actually features quite a few great articles about healthy food and eating.

And now for some links:

As I said, Veggie Chick has some great articles about healthy foods that are suitable for everyone. This particular post is about one of my favorite foods, hummus! Hummus can be a very healthy source of protein and can be used to spice up almost any meal. Give it a shot sometime by trying some of Veggie Chick’s hummus recipe.

From eDiets, we have a great article about exercising at work. I’m a great believer in this kind of activity. You’ll find that it keeps your body healthy and it actually improves your work by raising your energy levels.

From Weight Loss Stories, we have this anecdote about a man who lost a great deal of weight by simply walking. Yes, walking is probably the best and easiest way you can improve your health. If you do nothing else, at least do this, take a walk. Twice or three times a day, go walk for 15 to 20 minutes.

And one more from eDiets. This is an article about the various ways in which added fat and calories might find its way to your restaurant table. If you eat a lot you’ll definitely want to read this. Personally, I try to make my own food when possible or stick to smaller restaurants that I can trust.

  1. Some great links there, thanks!

So congratulations on your move–it’s often a lot of work, but it sounds like you’ve found a great place! And it’s so important to live somewhere you can walk to things instead of drive all the time. A much more healthy natural way to live.

    Hi Crabby,
Absolutely, I love being able to walk everywhere. This morning I biked to the train and then from the train to work. Took me an extra 10 minutes to get to work versus driving, but I got to spend 25 minutes reading vs. 25 minutes driving. Much less stressful and much better for me.
